Vintage Travel Poster Design Project
For this project, we studied travel posters from the 1920’s and 1930’s in the art deco style. Certain design elements we liked were a lack of gradients and a focus on solid, vibrant colors, very similar to a current trend in graphic design, known as flat design. Students based their designs on photographs found on-line from a location of their choice and then in Adobe Illustrator they created a vector composition using the pen tool for creating most vectors. Typefaces used are also based on fonts used during that period. Students had to balance how much detail to show, having them make design decisions about what elements in the photographs they based their posters on where the most relevant to their composition.
